Gastroenterological disorders curable, say specialists

PATNA: The experts in gastroenterology, who participated in the two-day annual conference of Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Bihar-Jharkhand chapter, at the Dengel Hall of Kurji Holy Family Hospital here, were of the unanimous view that all gastroenterological disorders were curable if diagnosed and treated at the initial stage.

PATNA: The experts in gastroenterology, who participated in the two-day annual conference of Indian Society of Gastroenterology, Bihar-Jharkhand chapter, at the Dengel Hall of Kurji Holy Family Hospital here, were of the unanimous view that all gastroenterological disorders were curable if diagnosed and treated at the initial stage.
All of them expressed their concern over rising cases of abdominal tuberculosis, cirrhosis of liver, ailments related to pancreas, liver cancer, gall-bladder cancer and jaundice.

Through live telecast and slides they showed how all such ailments could be cured. The two-day annual conference, which concluded on Sunday, was attended by more than 100 delegates. In the question-answer session, queries of participants were replied by experts. In the scientific session on Sunday, Dr Birendra Singh of Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences, Chandigarh, highlighted the latest treatment of hepatitis-B. He exchanged ideas with other doctors and replied to queries.
Noted surgeon from Mumbai Dr S K Mathur spoke about "portal hypertension" and whether it requires surgery or not. He also spoke about liver cancer (hepatocellulor carcinoma).
Dr Purnendu Roy from Kolkata spoke about the role of leproscopy in acute abdomen disorder requiring surgeries. Dr Rita Sood from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, spoke about latest diagnostic procedures of abdominal tuberculosis. Dr Birendra Singh from Chandigarh talked about indoscopic management of "biliary disease", which is of great concern for doctors.
